About this event

Join us for the first of many Movie Nights when mostly  San Francisco themed films will be shown.  Prepare your wine and cheese plate, or popcorn bowl.

The first event will be the Barbary Coast, 1935, staring Edward G Robinson, Miriam Hopkins and Joel McCrea.

On a foggy night in 1850, Mary Rutledge (Hopkins) and retired Colonel Marcus Aurelius Cobb (Frank Craven) arrive in San Francisco Bay aboard the clipper Flying Cloud. She had come to wed a wealthy owner of a gold mine, but it is revealed that he had lost his mine when the roulette wheel landed on red 13 times at the Bella Donna. The men at the wharf reluctantly inform her that her fiancé is dead, murdered most likely by Louis Chamalis (Robinson), the powerful owner of the Bella Donna restaurant and gambling house. Mary is upset, but quickly pulls herself together and asks the way to the Bella Donna.

Muddy streets in rainy San Francisco give you a taste of conditions during the Gold Rush.  Gambling halls, street shootings, the Law and Order men, and muckraking newspapermen all contribute to the story line.
Join us on December 14, and plan to also attend planned future showings.
The frequency of showing and future dates will be determined at the first showing on Dec 14.
