San Mateo and the Pacific Pumkin Search

Join CRAIG SMITH and MARK LEUTHOLD in search of the Great Pumpkin!!

Indian Summer in San Mateo County is a magical time before Halloween.
Let’s start the day discovering the history of San Mateo County at the
History Museum in Redwood  in the renovated Renaissance and
Roman revival style County Courthouse. Be dazzled by the largest
complete leaded stained glass dome on the west coast representing the
flag and torch of justice. Experience the strange case of Constance Flood,
known as the trial of the century in the actual court room.

We scatter for lunch with over 20+ restaurants in the village-like downtown
area. Bring your own bag lunch, or stop by the Sandwich Spot to picnic in
Courthouse Plaza. Admire one of the Peninsula’s oldest mansions, the
gothic style victorian home, known as the Lathrop House.

Filoli is our afternoon delight! Here we split into small docent lead groups to
learn about the spectacular home and gardens, which have been featured
in Hollywood productions. Part of the docents focus will be for you to
facilitate your own tour group visit. Have time to loose yourself in some of
the finest gardens on the west coast.

After so much history, relax and absorb the beauty in Pilarcitos Canyon
traveling past pumpkin patches on the way to Half Moon Bay. Stroll
charming Main Street, revive yourself at the Moonside Bakery and Cafe,
indulge in some San Mateo vintages at Barterra Winery, or just relax and
have a beer at Sacrilege Brewery.

German’s have dubbed it The Dream Highway of the World , we just call it
HWY 1. Whatever you call it, it’ll take us home. Devil’s Slide beckons us to
stop and breath in the view while discovering our coastal nature and
leaning about the bypass tunnel. Return to Marriott by 6:30 PM.

Following the lead of SFO which has eliminated single use water bottles, please remember to bring your own refillable bottle.
