1:30 PM SF Downtown Building and History Tour

"We will view architecturally significant or simply interesting buildings and share stories of early San Francisco and the people and companies whose names adorn those buildings.

Predecessor hotels or buildings (think Lick House or Platt’s Hall) that contributed to San Francisco’s early character will also have their stories told.

The tour has segments related to the Gold Rush, Silver Bonanza, Trans Continental Railroad and of course the great earthquake and fire.

The route visits banking temples, elaborate lobbies, art adorned passageways, and the celebrated Grain Exchange Hall at the Merchant’s Exchange.

William Chapman Ralston provides the bookends for this tour which starts at Ralston’s Palace Hotel and ends at the Bank of California, the first federally chartered bank in the state and the pivotal financial engine of Ralston’s Ring.  To this day, the #1 Clearing House Code appears on the checks of its successor, the Union Bank of California

We hope you can join us for this informative tour."
