For the first time, visitors to Golden Gate Park can rent skates and join the fun at the Skatin’ Place, a designated area just off the JFK Promenade where roller-skating enthusiasts have been congregating for decades.

Skate rentals, including inline and roller skates, will be available on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting Saturday, April 27. The rental rates are $12 per hour for children younger than 12 years old, with an additional $5 for each subsequent hour. For anyone 13 years or older, rentals are $20 per hour, plus $5 for each additional hour. Safety gear is also available to rent for $5 per day.

“Skating is integral to Golden Gate Park’s cultural fabric and to this day it remains one of the most prominent and popular activities,” Phil Ginsburg, the city’s recreation and park general manager, said in a statement. “If car-free JFK Promenade is the heart of Golden Gate Park, then the park’s soul is located at Skatin’ Place.”
