Hi Greg. Thanks as always for another good article. I can’t wait to see it

And thanks for an A + tour of Three Plazas. I am glad I went, despite not feeling well yesterday morning after far too little sleep. It was worth the effort! Amazing organization and interesting presenters. Thanks!

Cheers
Lucy

I promised Mark (Leuthold) yesterday, while on our Three Plazas adventure, that I would post this today. I must say, if you missed it, you missed out.

Chotto Matte, a huge new rooftop restaurant in San Francisco’s Union Square, will serve Peruvian and Japanese food.

A new 400-seat rooftop restaurant, decorated with 20 palm trees, a sushi bar, DJ lounge and spectacular views of the city skyline, opens Saturday, Oct. 21, in San Francisco.

It’s the first West Coast restaurant from Chotto Matte, a global chain with locations in the United Kingdom, Miami and the Middle East. Chotto Matte specializes in Nikkei cuisine, a product of the late 19th century Japanese diaspora that blends Peruvian and Japanese food traditions. Nikkei restaurants are uncommon in the Bay Area, beyond Kaiyo, which also runs a San Francisco rooftop restaurant, and international hit Nobu.

The huge restaurant, located on the top floor of 50 O’Farrell St. in Union Square, reflects Chotto Matte’s investment in San Francisco, even as narratives about the city’s challenges persist. It’s the company’s largest restaurant ever and its first rooftop location. In the first 30 minutes after reservations opened, 3,000 requests poured in.

“That’s never happened to me before,” said founding partner Kurt Zdesar, who opened the first Chotto Matte in London in 2013.
