About this event
Scooter Marriner, a new member and Oakland resident, will lead this 1.25 mile tour. It begins at the Ferry Lawn in Jack London Square in Oakland. We'll begin with the Port of Oakland and then the Town's founding. Covering Jack London's early life will include stops at Oakland's oldest bar (Heinold's First & Last Chance Saloon), and his 1897 Klondike cabin.
Oakland was voted the #1 Best Food City in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards (2024 and 2025) and we'll see how our 115 year old produce district is part of that story. Finally we'll visit the Western Pacific Train Station and discuss its connections with the transcontinental railroads.
You can take the 9:30am ferry from the SF Ferry Building which arrives at 9:55am.
