Starting Tuesday, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and commuting by ferry or bus will cost Bay Area travelers more.

Bridge tolls will rise by 50 cents across all vehicle types, part of a multiyear increase schedule adopted by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District.

The standard FasTrak rate will climb from $9.25 to $9.75, while drivers paying via license plate or one-time payment will see a jump from $9.50 to $10.

The toll invoice rate, sent by mail, increases to $10.75. Carpoolers will pay $7.75, up from $7.25.

Tolls for multi-axle vehicles will also increase, topping out at $75.25 for vehicles with seven or more axles.

Golden Gate Ferry and Golden Gate Transit fares will also rise by up to 25 cents per ride.

Adult ferry fares to and from Larkspur, Sausalito and Tiburon will increase to $14.

Clipper card users will pay reduced fares, while low-income riders enrolled in the Clipper START program will continue receiving a 50% discount.

Bus fares vary by zone, but are increasing systemwide for most adult riders.

The District says the fare and toll increases are necessary to maintain services and infrastructure, noting a “projected $220 million five-year shortfall.”

Officials also emphasized that the District does not receive dedicated state or local tax revenue and continues to recover from a steep decline in ridership following the COVID-19 pandemic.
