Soups, stews and pupusas are coming to Fisherman’s Wharf, as a new business is set to open in a space in the San Francisco tourist hub that has sat empty for five years.

Chasca Rio, a seafood restaurant featuring El Salvadorian and Honduran cuisines, is expected to open this summer in the spot formerly occupied by Pompei’s Grotto. The predecessor restaurant shuttered in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

San Francisco’s Port Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a proposed 10-year lease for the 3,750 square-foot space at 340 Jefferson St., along with two five-year renewal options. The Board of Supervisors must still approve the lease.
