The Bay Area is home to many fascinating birds — from ubiquitous crows to San Francisco’s newly-crowned official animal, the wild parrots. Even more migrate to the region every winter, making it a wonderful time to head outside and bird-watch.
In November and December 2022, local birders recorded sightings of more than 20,000 birds from nearly 400 different species. The Chronicle compiled those observations into a map that can help you plan a winter bird-watching excursion.
The map below highlights a variety of the most commonly recorded birds in the hot-spots along the shoreline and hiking trails as well as scattered sightings in residential neighborhoods.

The $400 million dollar renovation at the Transamerica Pyramid. I took these pics of the new main lobby while holding my phone over my head and over the fence. It extends on Montgomery from Washington on the left to Clay on the right and is much more open than in the past.
