San Francisco Tour Guide Guild - Programs
Muir Woods and Southern Marin County
July 29, 2010
Please join us for an exciting day in Marin County. The tour will be led by the Guild's Vice President, Don DeLaura. In the last ten years, Don has taken more than 200 groups to Muir Woods. He will show us the basics of a tour to this National Monument that receives nearly two million visitors a year. Tour guides are not allowed to give commentary inside the park, and many of us have never learned about the forest from a resident expert. This will be that opportunity. We will be given a morning tour of the forest by Mia Monroe, the NPS Site Supervisor for Muir Woods.
We will eat our lunch in the beautiful and dramatic surroundings of the Muir Beach Overlook. If you have never been there, you must see it. If you haven't been there in years, you will be impressed by the changes.
After lunch we will drive through Sausalito. You will learn "the ropes" of parking buses, getting free burgers, finding the ferry, and meeting guests. We will learn about Marinship, the Bay Model, and the colorful history of the House Boats. If we are lucky, the Bay Model will have reopened. We may be able to walk through this three-acre scale model of the Bay.
Our tour continues with a drive into the Marin Headlands where we will be given a private tour of the Marine Mammal Center, believed to be the largest such rescue facility in the world. We will not only see actual patient care, but also be able to touch pelts and animal handling equipment.
NOTE ON PICKUP: As usual on tours in Marin, we will meet guides from the North Bay at the Manzanita Park and Ride Lot, under the freeway where Routes 1 and 101 meet in Mill Valley.

From Grape to Bottle
September 16, 2010
The harvest is fast approaching! Awaken the senses at this exciting time of year, with a visit to Napa.
Wine has been likened to "poetry in a glass"! For those that love wine and those that are interested in the wine making process, this is YOUR tour!
Many a time, we have visited a winery, done tastings and tours; however, how often does one get to see how the barrel is made, see a bottling facility, or learn about cork and capsule production?
Seguin Moreau, Bin to Bottle, and Lafitte Cork and Capsule facilities are located en route to Napa. This visit will enable us to learn more about the production process!
Continuing on our mission, next up is a visit to the award winning Signorello Estate, located on the Silverado Trail. We will have a brief lunch break, while enjoying the stunning views of Napa Valley. This will be followed by a wine tour and tasting of their gorgeous facility!
Next ... does anyone know what a "ghost" winery is? Which is the 3rd oldest winery in Napa? Love the Silverado Trail? Love the Stags Leap area? Which winery are we talking about?
The Regusci Winery is a family run winery ... yes, they still exist!!! Come enjoy an informative tour and tasting at this "ghost" winery.
Enjoy the comradery of your colleagues and friends while learning, sipping, seeing and sensing!
NOTE: Lunch is included in the price. Please indicate whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian is desired.
